there's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane

My most recent obsession is skydiving. It's something I have wanted to do as long as I can remember, so after I did my first tandem jump back in July, I was hooked!

There's nothing to compare to the feeling of falling through the sky. It's like the whole world stops for a few minutes while you're doing something completely irrational, yet exhilarating. Skydiving has a special way of clearing your mind, too. When I'm in freefall, the only thing I'm thinking about is exactly what I'm doing at that moment. It's like hitting a reset button on my brain. When I hit the ground, it feels as though I'm just waking up. Everything is new again. Worries of the day don't return until I am miles away from the dropzone.

It's really an exciting way to refocus. Another thing that "restarts" me is running. I'm an "unplugged" runner most of the time, so no iPod, no gps, no running buddies to talk with along the way. That's my time with God. And as a side note, there are only two kinds of people I like to talk to while I'm running. Diety, obviously, since I don't have to verbalize to speak to God. Also, Deaf people... and for the same reason. :) I'm using all my breath to breathe, so I don't have time to worry about talking outloud, as well!

Anyway, I am obviously a thrill-seeker, but skydiving caught me by surprise. I never dreamed that it could be such a refreshing, rejuvenating thing that I would come back to do again and again. I definitely recommend trying it to anyone who would dare. It is amazing in so many ways!

What flags am I supposed to be looking for again?

Well, I edited my last post after finding out that I give people too much benefit of doubt.  My brother called the other day to find out what happened and I was explaining how I didn't see any red flags this time, so that's why the whole thing scares me.  Then, I started to tell him about a few little things that made me uneasy, but I didn't really see them as flags.  I'm starting to realize, though, maybe that feeling in my gut is the red flag.  The moment I start to feel insecure - is that the point I need to say I'm done? About a month into dating this guy, someone used the word "boyfriend/girlfriend" about us and we hadn't used those terms  yet.  I kind of laughed and said, "So... are you my boyfriend now?"  What I envisioned to be a cutesy moment where we start using the title turned into a conversation that left me feeling uneasy about our relationship.  He spouted off things about how we needed to take it slow and I was so determined ...

The smile I didn't want, but needed

While Nev and I were out and about today, I decided to make a quick stop to Walmart on the way home.  I decided to wear her throughout the store since she just can't quite sit up in the cart yet.  A few people complimented her or my wrap as we walked through the store.  One woman stopped me to ask me how I made something to wrap her like that.  I explained that I bought the wrap, but gave a quick one-liner about baby wearing.  English was not her first language, and I don't understand thick accents very well, so it was taking all of my concentration to have a conversation with her.  She asked me several questions about wrapping.  About a minute in, though, she abruptly changed the subject to why she *really* stopped to talk to me. A church group in which she is involved has started a Bible study and she was out to recruit members.  She asked where I go to church and I told her.  I was in a part of town very far from my house and much farthe...
