Life's a Stage

I am doing theater again!  WOOHOO!!!  I honestly thought the day would never come, but after interpreting for Level Ground Arts' last production, Xanadu, I got an opportunity to actually be in the next show - A Samurai Nosferatu.  I am so excited to get back to my first passion - I didn't realize how much I had missed it!  This show is a bit weird and a bit creepy, so what better time do it but October!  Please come see the show!  It will be running every Friday and Saturday in October (yes, even on my birthday which I am slightly bummed about having to change my big plans for my first annual 29th birthday, but being on stage almost makes up for missing Randy Travis at the TX state fair). :)

COME SEE IT!  Check out the link for more info... I'm so excited! :)

  1. Got the script yesterday and will read today - probably. Sort of a weird play from the glance I gave the script. It is exciting that you are back to acting again, though! I am sure you will rock (as always!).

Cakin' - Bejeweled Blitz style

My best friend, Rachel, recently turned 25 and we went to dinner tonight to celebrate her birthday.  I wanted to make a fun cake for her and finally decided on Bejeweled Blitz - a facebook game that we both play!  Since lots of people ask me just HOW I make my cakes, I thought I would show the process! First, I almost always use a cake mix.  People always tell me how amazingly delicious my cakes are, so why bother making them from scratch?  Also, I don't have to wonder how they will turn out because everything is so consistent.  My favorite brand is Betty Crocker and I love the French and Golden Vanilla the best.  Yummm You might not be able to tell in this picture, but I always line the bottom of the pan with wax paper.  If you don't do this, DO IT!  I made cakes for a year or two before I realized how wonderful this step is!  Now I never have a cake stuck in the pan! Also contributing to my non-stick success is THIS stuff.  I spr...

We're Doing It Scared

Here we are.  It's that first part of the roller coaster where you slowly climb up the huge hill.  You can see the crest at the top and it's exciting, but you're a little nervous, too.  This is our first time riding this rollercoaster and we expect lots of high highs and low lows, but we really don't know what to expect, ya know?  But here we are in the front seat.  We're almost to the very top and a whole new adventure awaits. Jake caught up to my foster parent training, so we both only have one in-person class, two webinars, and one doctor visit to go before our home study. All of this should be wrapped up in the next two weeks! There are really a lot of misconceptions about foster care, so I hope that taking y'all through the process with us will help to clear some things up.  One thing I wanted to address today is how foster care has been brought up a lot recently in the abortion debate.  It shows a HUGE misunderstanding about who is in foster ...

The smile I didn't want, but needed

While Nev and I were out and about today, I decided to make a quick stop to Walmart on the way home.  I decided to wear her throughout the store since she just can't quite sit up in the cart yet.  A few people complimented her or my wrap as we walked through the store.  One woman stopped me to ask me how I made something to wrap her like that.  I explained that I bought the wrap, but gave a quick one-liner about baby wearing.  English was not her first language, and I don't understand thick accents very well, so it was taking all of my concentration to have a conversation with her.  She asked me several questions about wrapping.  About a minute in, though, she abruptly changed the subject to why she *really* stopped to talk to me. A church group in which she is involved has started a Bible study and she was out to recruit members.  She asked where I go to church and I told her.  I was in a part of town very far from my house and much farthe...
